Melbourne Chamber Orchestra
Tiny + Mighty

In a highly competitive and changing market, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra (MCO) were in the midst of a post-pandemic challenge, where audiences had suffered a decline and Melbourne’s arts and cultural institutions were vying to be the night out of choice.
Having recently appointed a new and exciting Artistic Director, in the form of Sophie Rowell, formally of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO), programming at MCO is evolving into something a little more experimental. A fresh approach sees the orchestra working with more diverse composers and soloists, and performing more contemporary works, including commissions by MCO from indigenous and female composers.
An opportunity existed to re-build the brand, now around a decade old, and bring with it a whole new look that better demonstrated the modern MCO, to classical music aficionados and open minded Melburnians alike.
A new logo, colour palette and visual language, coupled with bold headlines and contemporary layouts, challenges how a modern orchestra, and arts institution, should look and sound. With it, an appeal to a younger and more culturally adventurous demographic, that forms the future of the MCO’s audience.
I worked with photographer Peter Tarasiuk to create a bespoke library of images with a unique visual aesthetic, echoing the cerebral and sometimes left-field approach that the orchestra takes.
A new website brings the distinct messaging and visual identity to life, with rich content, a robust catalogue system and integration of a new ticketing portal.
A complete overhaul of all printed communications delivered a holistic, eye-catching and targeted brand that will be applied to the house and concert communications going forward.
