Happy 2024! Nothing beats starting off the new year with an identity crisis!
Many of us think we know where our ancestors came from, but do we truly know? I thought I did, until after two months of research and putting together my family tree on Ancestry that I came across some interesting and shocking facts. Using my graphic design skills, I created an infographic of my findings. Here are some key highlights:
✦ I have an exceptional amount of ancestors from Germany.
✦ Many of my ancestors were first settlers in the region where I grew up.
✦ Oh, and my maiden name was never supposed to be O’Brien. Turns out my 3rd great-grandfather decided to change his very German name of Simon Geimer to Irish John O’Brien (start the internal screaming).
Jokes aside, I love solving a good mystery and found a lot of joy in my journey of self discovery, and encourage others to also embark on their quests for familial knowledge. But I will say that the next time someone tells me about their heritage, I will need to see it to believe it!
