The Biophotovoltaic Bench is made aiming to introduce in the urban designing products that are completely independent from any form of energy and alongside with the users it plays with ecology, the amazing and unexplored applications, but also to the applications that biological organisms can acquire in our everyday and modern life.
 
The Inspiration
This concept inspired from the modern way of living and the great concentration of people in urban areas has not only its good aspects but also its bad ones. The environmental pollution and the great demand of energy in every corner of a big city are the major two. The biophotovoltaic bench can make us realize that something that is so common and abundant on the planet like the microalgae might provide us with the amount of energy we need for the modern way of living. The design no longer restricts itself to organic forms that conventional design has but goes further by using living organisms. Through this object of urban design the benefits we will be able to have in our civilization from technologies that are friendly to the environment can be widely known. These extremely small photosynthesizing organisms can provide us with energy that has absolutely no cost and at the same time they absorb carbon dioxide, a very harmful element that is abundant in the urban regions.

The Function
Biophotovoltaic Bench based on technology that calls Biological PhotoVoltaics (BVP), which is the new technology in order to produce energy. It uses self-atrophying organisms or parts of them (on this case micro-algae), which through the process of photosynthesis can produce electricity. The biological photo voltaic systems are in fact a kind of biological electrochemical systems or microbial hives of fuel.
They are also called “photo-microbial fuel cells” or “living solar cells”. In the near future it might be possible to use a living organism (which will be able to create and regenerate itself) so that Biological PhotoVoltaic could become an inexpensive and efficient alternative solution to the composition of photovoltaic systems.
