These are examples from last year of the psychological self portrait final exam. Some are on-level Art 1 and some from Advanced Art 1.Most in this group are Advanced Art 1, but by the end of the first year there is often less difference between students who had art in middle school and those who have not- provided students were diligent and learned.

Students go through a process where they think about how to represent themselves and study an artist they choose as an influence.  I have a slideshow of possible directions, but students may choose any artist and develop their own compositions after doing the important work of looking.  Individually and as a class we discuss how to use artist research to inform and inspire.  Ideally, artist choice should enhance the student vision for their work creating synthesis between style, media choice, composition, and message about self the student wishes to convey.
