Oh captain my captain
I met you 1st time in 1992 when I didn't know a word of English
You were a weird alien who spoke in a quirky way and had odd gestures
You were also on radio in Vietnam for some reason
I laughed and learned a lot just by looking at you
A year later you dressed up like a woman and took care of kids then fell in love with their mother
This confused yet fascinated me none the less
When you fought against the pirate captain it was exactly how it was done in J.M. Barrie's book
I saw you become a genie in a whole new world
You inspired me to illustrate, you inspired me to imagine
You were trapped in the wilderness game for many years
Came out and showed me adventure like I've never seen
When I was in high school, we studied you and learned that
True expression can only be found through passion
From that day on you were a true captain
Even when you went looking for your wife in the after life
It was truly like a dream
You've sparked both imagination and humour for many lifetimes
Now you sit on a cloud and wear the stars
Oh captain my captain
Little do you know
You're the aspired ancestor of a Dangerous Darky now
Rest in peace Robin Williams
