Book Cover Redesign (personal project)

Book redesign (personal project):
During my holidays in January 2024 I decided to redesign the book I was reading at the time: Fake Dates and Mooncakes by Sher Lee. The book cover was a big contributing factor in my purchase but after reading it I came up with ideas on how to further clarify the concept of the book through the cover.
I am pleased with the final design. I love the colouring style used as it looks modern and stands out from the standard colouring style used in book covers. I did like the original green and orange as it’s fresh and modern but I felt blue would be a better fit. The main colour in the colour palette is light blue for the blue snow skin mooncakes Dylan makes in the book. I also made sure to put the Chinese symbol for “remembrance” on the mooncake as this symbol was important to Dylan after losing his mom.
The placement of the characters, their outfits and distance between them highlight the class difference more but they are gazing at each other showing interest in each other.
Finally, I changed the display font as I am personally not the biggest fan of script font as it tends to look the same but script font is usually used in romance books as it gives off playful and happy feelings associated with love. The font I chose is still script and looks playful but isn’t “girly”.
