Exhibition: Immersion into the Depths of the Sleeping House's Mind

Artworks will become conduits for you to explore an abandoned house and help you understand it. What is it like, an abandoned house? Is it dangerous or alluring? Is it tired of existence or yearning for rebirth? Artists have created works specifically for this place, spending several months contemplating this space, seeking inspiration in its dark corners. Wander among the works, acquaint yourself with the artists' statements, and discover more nuances of this house's significance.

The idea of the exhibition belongs to the artist Lev Kise, who decided to create an exhibition space where it was not intended. In general, the entire city of Nizhny Novgorod is one big potential exhibition space, but the "Preserve Quarters" area, which is home to various abandoned historical buildings undergoing reinterpretation, was chosen as the most prepared for an exhibition.

The participants of the exhibition are artists from Nizhny Novgorod, most of whom have been engaged in street art in recent years. However, now we are putting the word "street" in parentheses and talking about artists in a broader sense. Street art has moved from the walls of old buildings and entered the interior space.

Unlike a museum, an abandoned house provides a very vivid context: the artworks are not placed in empty halls but rather in a space with its own character. Abandoned spaces can attract spectators even without an exhibition, as they already form a complete installation, a genuine one, not an artistic one. This is also a ready-made: artists hang a sign "exhibition" on an empty house, turning it into a complete work of art while utilizing the existing interiors to display their pieces. This "friendship of the painting and the wall" creates a delicate connection, where art heavily relies on the space and literally grows out of it. It is very characteristic of Nizhny Novgorod, where artists create their works based on the context. Note: The translation provided assumes that the phrase "friendship of the painting and the wall" refers to the close relationship between the artworks and the physical space they are displayed in. If this interpretation is incorrect, please let me know, and I will be happy to adjust the translation accordingly.
