Cossack dovbysh (a drummer in the Ukrainian Cossack army).
"When the battle started, the dovbysh would start beating the kettledrums, and as long as they were heard, the battle was going well, the Cossacks were fighting. When the kettledrums stopped, the alarm began: "What's wrong? Maybe we are retreating? Maybe we are surrounded?" - There was no communication. Therefore, when a dovbysh near the kettledrums was killed by a bullet or a cannonball, and there was a battle going on around him and he could be hit, although he was guarded by two men, it is written in ancient chronicles that then the one who stood next to him grabbed sticks and then hit the tulumbas with all his might - so that the battle would not stop and there would be no panic."
