- FMP: Early Development -
During the next 2 weeks, I wanted to explore which folklore I would be illustrating and the visual direction I would be taking.
Page 23 is where I decided that I should interview David Barry. I thought that taking my research back to where I originally found my passion would help remind me of what's important to portray in this project.
Creating the Kioyhime/Hannya design was a fun exploration into where this project could lead and how I can draw influence from different sources to create something new. This design was extremely derivative and didn't add anything new to the expression of Japanese folklore which hadn't been said before.

This design did serve as a great starting point on creating a design which has a limited color palette and bold block areas which could be translated into prints or collage. I want to create designs which feature these elements but are original takes on traditional folklore in new and exciting media. I would like to create printed elements and use them to create collages.

I'm excited to see how I can develop new techniques and continue to research graphic illustration.
