Student Project - Album Cover Illustration
In honor of No Doubt reuniting to play Coachella this year (2024) and the nostalgia of my teen years, I chose to redesign their album, Tragic Kingdom. No Doubt, led by the charismatic Gwen Stefani, gained widespread acclaim with their third studio album, "Tragic Kingdom," which showcased their distinctive sound and Stefani's powerful vocals. The album's themes of heartbreak, resilience, and self-discovery resonate with audiences to this day. The illustration directive is open to interpretation, offering creative freedom to explore various styles and mediums. For this redesign, I chose to utilize a combination of Adobe Illustrator and linocut/block printing* techniques. My objective is to capture the essence of the band's iconic blend of ska, punk, and pop while infusing it with a fresh perspective but still paying homage to elements of the original artwork.
* This is my first time trying linocut/block printing with limited knowledge and supplies so please allow some grace in your critique of my execution (Though, the texture I left uncut was intentional to get a more grungy look). Thank you!
