Project Duration: May’14-July’14
Keywords: Social Media, Fitness technologies, User Engagement

Brief:This project was carried out as a part of my summer internship at Samsung Research Institute Bangalore.

My project was to create a social media framework for a fitness community for fitness enthusiasts in urban India. The core challenge was to understand group fitness activity and social roles in fitness from prior field studies. In addition, secondary research included understanding peer influence as motivation for fitness activities.

The seven social media building blocks viz. Identity, Presence, Sharing, Reputation, Conversations, Groups and Relationships were ideated to create a robust social media experience for fitness communities. The framework included group interactions, sharing of fitness information, communication between users and fitness comparisons. Several social interactions and gestures were conceptualized with relevance to health and fitness. Finally, detailed design guidelines were proposed for future fitness technologies leveraging on social media for greater user engagement. Details cannot be disclosed due to NDA.
