Designing the website for Mug Shoppe Barbershop was an intriguing project that allowed me to dive deep into the unique aesthetic described as "modern industrial art deco meets the rugged charm of a macho man's mop shop." The specific request for a black, grey, and white color palette added an interesting layer of challenge, as it had to evoke the brand's essence while keeping the design engaging and visually compelling.

One of the first challenges was working within the monochromatic palette. While black, grey, and white can create a sleek, modern look, there was a risk of the website appearing too flat or monotonous. To combat this, I varied the textures and alternated shades within these colors. For instance, I used transparent patterns of the logo to add depth to background elements, and incorporated a mix of black, grey, and white sections in the design elements to mimic the industrial influences.

The client's distinctive decor of black and white mugshots decorating the walls provided a creative direction for the imagery on the website. I decided to integrate these elements subtly throughout the site as background images. This kept the design coherent with the physical space of the barbershop.

Typography was another critical component. To reflect the modern industrial vibe mixed with art deco, I chose fonts that echoed these themes. The headers featured a bold, blocky typeface (Inter Bold) that resonated with the industrial feel, while the body text was set in a clean, minimalist font (Roboto Mono) to ensure readability and maintain the modern aesthetic.

Overall, the project tested my ability to balance a strong thematic concept with functional design principles. The limited color palette pushed me to think creatively about texture and depth, and integrating the mugshot imagery required thoughtful placement to maintain a professional yet engaging user experience. The result was a site that truly represented the unique character of Mug Shoppe Barbershop, providing a visually rich and easy-to-navigate online presence.
