"The Waving Girl"
This piece is a modern depiction of an old Savannah tale. In 1887, an 18 year old girl fell in love with a Navy lieutenant. As his ship left port, he vowed to some day return and gave her his handkerchief as a token of his love. She waved it at each ship coming into the port of Savannah that passed by her, on Elba Island, and continued to do so for 44 years. Florence Martus became a sailor's legend: "The Waving Girl." This painting is 24 x 36 but available in smaller sizes, both on canvas and watercolor paper.
