Islamic patterns have a rich history, captivating viewers with intricate beauty and geometric precision.
In this project, I'm trying to show the sophisticated simplicity and elegance of these traditional designs, creating patterns that are calming and visually appealing.
Through research, I delved into the principles of Islamic art, where patterns often symbolize the infinite nature of creation. By repeating simple shapes and focusing on the octagon, a fundamental motif in Islamic geometry, I achieved harmony and balance within each composition.
This project is one piece of my Octagon pattern ensemble, a captivating collection of intricate and mesmerizing designs. The octagon, with its eight sides, represents the concept of equilibrium and harmony, making it the perfect anchor for crafting serene and meditative patterns.
These simple Islamic patterns can be seamlessly integrated into wallpaper or textile designs, adding a modern flair to a timeless artistic tradition. The clean lines and subdued color palette enhance the tranquil nature of these timeless motifs.
A video to show how to create a quarter of a unit, reflect it, and repeat it to form a complete unit. The mapping or grid is the most precise and challenging part of the work because all the connections depend on it for the final artwork to turn out correctly. With large panels, we can use a digital grid and calque film to keep the reference intact if we want to repeat this process in the future.
