DÜSSELDORF / COLOGNE, GERMANY - 2023
Kathi and I traveled from Amsterdam by DB Rail, arriving in Düsseldorf on September 30, the last day of Oktoberfest. (I know; sounds counterintuitive.) We met my niece Krista, her husband Jake, and their daughter Sloan, at the HeimWerk Altstadt for dinner - beer and Schnitzel - an Octoberfest feast! After dinner we took a stroll along the Rhein. The NEUER ZOLLHOF was the first significant architecture we encountered along the way, but it was certainly not the last.
We also made a whistle-stop in Cologne, the home my father’s side of the family. While in Cologne, we visited the Cologne Cathedral which dates to 1248. UNESCO World Heritage says: “No other Cathedral is so perfectly conceived, so uniformly and uncompromisingly executed in all its parts.”
