TZFM201 Spring Week 6 Team 3 - 6 Images
I worked on putting together a series of images of the sporting event of British Superbikes at Oulton Park which captured different parts of the track both close-up and wide. I am quite pleased with my results - some of the images came out much better than I expected.
Motorsports is an area which I am comfortable with - with it being one of my favourite genres over the past 6 months - however, events photography was one which took extra work and consideration. I was trying to combine spectators watching the action, with the action itself. I played about with the aperture to get large depths of field and experimented with shutter speed to draw eye to different areas.
Overall, I found the event to be filled with fast on-track action, contrasting with people lazing about in the lovely weather, soaking in the action! So I feel my combination pictures of blurred bikes and stationary crowds work well.
I didn't have a tripod with me, so I was practicing holding the camera very still. I had 2 lenses: 400mm f/5.6 and 50mm f/1.4, and these worked great as a combination. I always find 'specialist lens for event + the 50mm' is my go-to!! It is like capturing the subject, and the viewer too.
Of the 1,020 pictures I took, I was really happy with 40, so a great result. These are just a good variety of 6 from that selection. I got loads of good ones of bikes leaning over into the fast bend, so it was just about picking my favourite. I like the orange on the wall. It highlights the rear of the bike a little.
