Chamba Wood Craft Research Documentation

This document explores the thriving woodcraft cluster in Samra (Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, India). It documents the artistry and skill of the woodcarvers, examining how they transform wood into beautiful and functional objects. By combining academic research with firsthand experiences from a visit to the cluster, we studied the history and traditions of woodcraft, its social and economic impact on the community, techniques and materials used, and even ethical considerations. Carefully chosen pictures and illustrations complement the analysis, offering a well-rounded perspective on this craft. This research serves as a requirement for the Craft Research and Documentation course undertaken by Bachelor of Design (Accessory Design) students at the National Institute of Fashion Technology.
