FLOWERS FOR POPE

The project of a large mural on the surface of an 8-storey block of flats bulding in the Lunik IX, Košice. Initiated by the creative team of the Salesian Don Bosco with coorperation of Street Art Communication, Kočice City and ETP Slovensko.

Just as the role of the Pope is to be "pontifex maximus" — "builder of bridges", the unexpectedly symbolic event of Pope Francis visit to the Roma housing estate prompted collaboration between several institutions and civic associations for the realisation of the painting.

Pope Francis is known to be fond of simple and sincere human gestures. The resulting art motif is therefore a composition of flowers growing out of the cracks of a concrete surface. It is a kind of imaginary bouquet of meadow flowers that local children found in a meadow and worked together to create. The plants growing through the concrete surface refer to the idea of hope, beauty, resilience and the will to live that is found in every person deserving of dignity.
