GRÜNE LUNGE
Urban Planning Design/Residential Housing
Düsseldorf
Elevating the residential buildings with a beneath leisure and park area, enhancing
the quality of the neighborhood.
In the „Green Lung (of the City)“ design, an answer was sought for the question,
„What creates a pleasant climate in a metropolis?“

To address the main question, a differentiation was initially made between „townhouse“ and „metropolitan climate.“ Through research in (historical) urban planning theories such as „Stadt in der Stadt“ by Hettweck/ Marot and the classic „vertical city“ by LeCorbusier, as well as insights from building physics and meteorology, we found the answer.

Elevating the residential buildings with an underlying park that benefits the mental and physical well-being of residents is the solution. By raising the buildings in combination with water basins, a thermal cycle is created that helps transport the rising warm air away.
