Making: An Investigation of Process and Production
// SPATIAL // PROCESS : PRODUCTION : CONTEXT : MORPHOLOGY : SPATIALITY
In what way the process and production can be demonstrated through spatial configuration?
The focus of the project is to investigate and interpret a process of ‘making’ in relation to spatial layout by paying particular attention to the treatment of the streetscape and surrounding urban conditions of Lincoln town centre. The proposed site is located in between the Brayford Quay Waterfront and major business street in Lincoln, Lincolnshire. On the strength of Lincoln Cathedral (Once the tallest building until the 16th century) and the oldest bridge (High Bridge), preserving the architectural context becomes a value in town. Due to limited open space within the town centre, the location of the site is tranquil yet extraordinary and challenging; surrounded by two large monotonous retail building.
The image of the building through morphological approach, is design to accommodate all that is required in the ‘making’ process and also house a publicly accessible ‘front of shop’. The concept is driven by its material pallet, proportion, rhythm, solid/void, and interior/exterior relationships.
Façade - Toppings or ganaches will give rise to the  confectionery products into an attractive and loveable desserts. The same principle is applied onto the building to create an outstanding and irregular shape, contrasting with the surrounding bland buildings. Most of the chocolates are broken irregularly, creating an unique pattern and own characteristic on the outside by showing the ingredients inside. The concept is applied on the forms of the outer layer (double skin facade), seductively showing parts of the space inside, but not entirely.

Roofing Concept - Chocolates are protected and wrapped with aluminum foil to minimize the heat absorbed. Acting as an insulation, aluminum composite panels are installed at the outer layer of the building to reduce its room temperature.

Landscapes - Trees and greenscapes are placed at the perimeter of the building open space to provide shadings for public resting and to alleviate the alleyway scene.
