Cancer survivor receives royal treatment

A Johnson County woman is turning her breast cancer tragedy into a
fairytale with a happy ending.
During her pregnancy with her third child, Holly Davis became aware
that she had a lump on her left breast. Only 25 years of age, Davis
said this week that doctors were not willing to work with her during
her pregnancy. She was 17 weeks pregnant when the cancer was
diagnosed. “They had first told me I needed to terminate my pregnancy.
And, of course I was like, no way,” she  said. Davis’s husband, Ray,
said during his wife’s pregnancy that Holly underwent a radical
mastectomy and four rounds of chemotherapy, all under the the watchful
eye of her oncologist.
After being induced into labor at 34 weeks and delivering a small, but
healthy baby girl, Holly underwent an additional 12 treatments of
chemo.
Recently, Hibbett Sports offered its customers the opportunity to
submit a “Hibbett for Her” story of someone who deserved the
opportunity of a lifetime after surviving breast cancer. Holly’s
husband entered her story into the contest. With hundreds of people
entering the contest, Davis said she didn’t think her chances were
great of being chosen but, she said, her husband received an e-mail,
and a follow-up call, from Hibbett’s saying Holly’s story had won.
In recognition of Holly’s triumph over tragedy, Hibbett Sports sent
Davis and her husband to Birmingham, Alabama where the pampering soon
commenced. Holly was treated to a day at the spa, luxurious lodging,
the best in dining, and, to top it all off -- a photo shoot for Under
Armour to be used in the company’s advertisements
Being the strong-minded indivdual she is, Holly gives God, family and
friends credit for helping her get through her cancer crisis.
Holly says she received much support and was able to keep hope during
her sickness. Her advice to other women who may be experiencing a
similar situation is to know that “it is important to keep a check on
yourself, don’t question or ignore any lump, it is better to be safe
than sorry,” she said. “And if diagnosed, know that It is not a death
sentence,” she added.
“I almost can’t believe how far I have come, from being sick and bald
to healthy and happy today,” she said.
Holly’s story of triumph did not come easy, but she is happy to share
her testimony and to give other women hope.
Having overcome her battle with cancer, Holly will be celebrating five
years of being cancer-free this coming November. She says she is is
happy to celebrate life, her children, family, and of being able to
share five years of her “miracle daughter” Kennedy’s life.
