Falling Venus

I think that the worst reaction from anyone to my art work would be - - indifference.
.Focus of recent work:I’m interested in creating images of people and objects inodd situations.
I try and use my artwork to communicate a feeling to theviewer. Sometimes my artwork is used as a social commentary, other times justto make a gut feeling statement.

Currently I’m working on paintings that try and explain thecreation process and how that makes me feel emotionally My current painting is very very loosely based on Bottichelli'sBirth of Venus painting. Bottichelli adds quite a bit of Roman Mythology to hisrepresentation but for me I see it as a birth of an idea, of creating and ofmaking art.

I remember a conversation I had with an artist where we both triedto explain how it felt to get up every morning and having to create somethingfrom nothing. My best explanation at the time was " Every day I get up andjump off a 50 story building and see where it goes from there".

I am using my current painting to show how I feel every time Icreate a work of art. Totally naked, vulnerable, scared, and then to top it offI have to deal with all the comments from every viewer of my creation.

I think that the worst reaction from anyone to my art work wouldbe - - indifference.
Like most of my art projects, this one also caused me to create an other project so that I could start. Since I did not have an easel that would hold a 6 foot by 6 foot painting I had to  make one. Here you see the new easel almost done.
Worse part was that it would not fit in my studio at the cabin in the woods. So I had to hang it on the out side of the studio so that I could move the canvas up and down. Note that I used a block and tackle to be able to move the center of the easel up and down. Going to have to make one of these for my studio at home one of these days.
Here you can see the easel in action. Canvas is 6 x 5 feet in size. Talk about plain air painting!!!
Blocking in some color on the figure and hoping that I have enough paint to finish before I remove the canvas from the temp stretchers. I then rolled it up and brought it home from the cabin and then started over.
New stretchers made and canvas re-stretched. Hands hurt after doing this one.
Back on the home studio easel and starting to put in the city scape
Its really a big painting. The biggest one I've ever done.
Here it is all done and ready for the show.
