___WINTER 2014 ___Proposal for the Evolo Skyscraper Competition addresses the ecological problem of Nim Wan, Hong Kong, China, is the epitome of what has happened as a result of the negligence of mankind. This once beautiful bay is now consumed with 300,000 people; each caught in struggle to survive in the age of technology. People have become machines; tools used by vicarious corporations that only care about next year’s numbers. But numbers talk for themselves:

- Nim Wan is the biggest out of three landfills in Hong Kong- 110 acres with the capacity of 61 million m³
- Densely populated Hong Kong produces about -6.4 million tons of waste per year
- By 2020 all three of active landfills will be full

The Chinese government is desperately looking for a proper waste management solution by raising awareness and installing various types of recycling features around the city, however it is still not clear how to approach this major issue.

The proposed skyscraper is located on the bay area of the Nim Wan landfill and essentially sustains itself as well as surrounding areas by using trash collected throughout Hong Kong as a renewable resource. It functions as a small vertical city which features residential, commercial, educational units, environmental institute, chemical lab and waste processing plant, which creates jobs for the city. The processing plant generates enough power for the whole structure including transportation throughout the structure.
