KOTI, Injection Moulded stool for Muuto.

Developing my knowledge of rapid manufacturing plastics and using CAD software, I was set the brief to design a chair or stool which could be injection molded or rotational molded. I chose to design for Muuto, a Scandinavian company. I believed that their simplistic and colourful designs were beautfiul and aimed to design a stool which would compliment they're exisiting products and be desireable to their market. The cantilever seat makes the product structurally more interesting and the colour choice would make the product a feature in the home whether using one colour alone or multiple. The structure is inspired by the Muira Stool as this stool too is injection moulded and stands out in the market.

Recycled PET plastic bottles which would otherwise be adding tto our landfills would be ground and mixed with glass fibre. Injection moulding this sustainable alternative and using gas assisstance to make hollow would create a very strong product. This is a process which Emeco currently use. From each chair they manufacture, 111 plastic bottles have been recycled. Muuto stand out for their use of traditional and natural materials such as glass, ceramic and wood. However, I believe this injection moulded stool would compliment their current catalogue as its method of reusing plastics fits in with Muutos sustainable image that comes from their use of natural materials.
