This series was inspired by the paintings of the Dutch Golden Age. In the 15th century, to paint food meant that the artist had an excess and the luxury of buying food and letting it sit out for as long as was needed to complete a painting, Banquets of food were set out for days and weeks until it’s purpose was served. In first world countries, excess is no longer equated to luxury and is instead the norm. Therefore, I have decided to introduce these extravagant vessels into my photographs to symbolize the richness and opulence that food represented in the past.
