Fracking holds a unique place in struggling areas of Pennsylvania. The jobs provide opportunity for communities that were once thriving steel and coal towns, but the fracking practices create environmental concerns for the people and ecosystems residing there. Fresh water sources are threatened, by use, as well as by pollution, and towns that were once quiet, country towns are now overrun by semi trucks every hour of the day. There are mixed opinions about fracking being safe or not, but it can't be denied that we can't possibly know the future effects of these actions because the practice is so new.
