Brief note about the artist: – David Alexander Colville was born in Canada during 1920’s and served as a war artist during the WWII for the Royal Canadian Army. His early work included depicting the horrors of the Bergen-Belsen Nazi concentration camp in East Germany. Colville returned to New Brunswick after the war and become a faculty member with the Fine Arts Department at Mount Allison University. I decided to copy one of his pantings called “Horses" as it is a magnificent masterpiece of fine art which I immediately liked and appreciated very much.
I used Adobe Photoshop CC to create an initial sketch of the masterpiece by using Wacom pad and pen tool. Once the initial sketch was completed, I used the Eyedropper Tool to determine the original colors used in the masterpiece. I used a number of Brushes to paint the painting. Some of the brushes I used are as follows:
- Wet Media Brushes
- Basic Brushes
- Assorted Brushes
- Thick Heavy Brushes

Even though Colville had access to only a few colors in his time, it was extremely hard to get the original colors and maintain the originality for my recreation. I agree that “Horses" is indeed a masterpiece.
