Medusa, Fall 2014~Still in progress
Hand carved, Earthenware Clay
2'x2'

Medusa: this piece depicts my interpretation of  the Greek myth of Medusa.
The piece represents the final  moment rite after Medusa was decapitated by Perseus.
This is a brief, controversial and intimate moment, where she huggs herself with her wings, almost to hide this private and last consciuous act. As she is holding her head, before Perseus has a chance to grab it, she finally stares at the only place of her body that she couldn't look at, herself.

This sculpture is hand carved from a solid 2'x2'  block of eathernware clay. The process of carving a solid block of clay is highly labor intensive and it needs caution, because of the necessity to coordinate the drying process of the clay while carving.

For many people it is an object of faith, hope and redemption; for many young people  is just an old, fixed and dusty object.
