Cute Monster Project

Reflection:

Through the use of websites like Pinterest, I was able to collect ideas and images that helped me create my monster. Most of the monsters had large eyes, a large head, and a solid colored body. The shape of the bodies and heads inspired me to make my monster adorably disproportionate.

Had there been an absence of technology, I would have most likely drawn inspiration in the Japanese manga style of “chibi,” or a drawing of a person that’s meant to be adorable. In order to create this desired effect they supersize the character’s eyes and head, and minimize its body. I also would have drawn inspiration from animals like hedgehogs or moles, small creatures with the same kind of body structure as my little creature.

Technology impacts artwork a lot. Sites like deviantART and Behance allow amateur artists like myself to learn from professionals. Sometimes these professionals post tutorials or tips to help other people improve their art. Other times, even observing a good artist’s masterpiece is enough to ignite a spark within students.
