Nostalgia is often defined as a feeling of sentimentality towards the past but when broken down from it's Greek roots nostalgia directly translates as a longing to return home. Deeply rooted in themes of nostalgia, Homebound is a pursuit not for a place but for a feeling. The "home" nostalgia seeks is a time that no longer exists and may never have. Nostalgia is non linear: It's a combination of idealizations of the past and dreams of the future. When one has a nostalgic yearning they often long for glorified moments of the past that are perceived as better because they are not content with the present. The hope is that in the future they can feel as they believe they felt in the past. Sometimes occurrences of the present recall memories, similar to a feeling of déjà vu, and one can feel fleetingly at home in that moment of reminiscence. This series chronicles my search for these moments of contentedness with the alignment between my past, present, and supposed future.
