This was a self-directed project that further explored the functions of Mag+. After learning the program, I wanted to create something using all of the really neat functionalities of Mag+. I decided to build an iPad magazine, much like Outside. Created for a younger, modern demographic, Distance tries to encourage more people to go the distance and find their own adventure.
The front-of-the-book section features several columns, including: locations (places to go and see), bookworm (book reviews and recommendations), and travel advice (an advice column for newbies).
I also designed two feature articles, so I could play with layout and display type. The first feature is about Venice, Italy and features activities and locations to visit. I wanted to capture the feeling of the city with my designs, while also conveying a fun and adventurous tone.
The second feature article was a story about the Cascade Mountain Range. As the magazine as a whole was about the things to do in the first days of fall, I thought the main feature should focus on something that would be great to do as you watch the leaves change. The article features the author’s recent trip to the Cascades, as well as little facts about what to do and where to go.
