Echoes
MANDALA JOURNAL / ISSUE XI
The Mandala Journal is a multicultural publication run by the Institute for African American Studies at the University of Georgia. My poem, "Boat People," was previously published in the 2014 issue, and this year, I had the honor of desgining the cover for the 2015 issue, "Echoes," which will launch later this spring.
"Echoes allows Mandala to give body to something that is invisible and auditory. Echoes embodies the lingering nature of resonance. Echoes embodies how the present is powerful in the moment but eventually must end. Echoes embodies fences and barriers to bounce off. Echoes embodies the hum of human nature. Finally, Echoes embodies actions and their consequences. Echoes are repetitive and finite, but may be interpreted in many ways – we welcome it all."
