Valerie Vernon's profile

2011 Paintings + Drawings + Sculpture

No matter what medium I use, I am very drawn to using a wide spectrum of color. White is not just white, it is blue and grey and yellow and purple. I am fascinated by the vulnerability of color because it appears everywhere in multitudes, susceptible to being assumed as one thing or another. In the same way that color appears as an array of tones and shades rather than just a single tint, texture appears in a spectrum as well. In 2D works, I find that I can apply texture in ways that I cannot with 3D works, and vice versa. A paintbrush becomes an awl, and a stick of charcoal can be a sponge. Art is limitless, just like the world around us.
