A Lover's Discourse
In exploring the concept of narrative in design, I created a book with an excerpt from "The Marriage Plot" by Jeffrey Eugenides. This particular excerpt also discusses a book by Roland Barthes, "A Lover's Discourse: Fragments". Because of this, I decided to combine both texts to create a more complex and interesting narrative. The secondary text was chosen to directly relate to the concepts discussed on that particular page. Both texts were designed to be cohesive yet visually distinct from one another. This project allowed me to consider the multitude of ways in which a story can be told, through visual studies, typographic choices, book structure and page layout.
