Museum Work
Exhibit setup, Paper and Artifact Conservation, Museum Mounts
My museum experience includes paper and object conservation, making of professional museum mounts, and setting up exhibits (including matting and framing the works). During my internship at Juneau-Douglas City Museum I learned how to promote the exhibits and public programs by writing press releases and designing posters for upcoming events. I also enjoy teaching when the opportunity is presented.
Before and after the cleaning of an artifact at the Des Moines Historical Society.
Making of museum quality mounts using plexiglass.
The object has to be protected and at the same time not damaged by the mount. The wires had to be bent to the exact shape of the object and wrapped in protective material. The mount would be covered in an actual museum exhibit.
A fun experiment with bending of plexiglass and gluing the pieces together.
Clamshell boxes used to store smaller books.
All foam is cut to custom fit the artifact.
Cleaning and waxing the Pappajohn Sculpture Park in downtown Des Moines.
