Norfolk, by Moskal, is a collection based on two concepts merged together: the geographic area of Norfolk County, and the art of natural architecture. It is the synthesis of these two ideas that sparked the inspiration for the Norfolk collection. This Art-to-Wear collection is for women’s Fall/Winter 2015. The collection focuses on structures and shapes that convey the fantasy of a beautiful savage.
The collection has been designed with not only hard inspiration involved, but also a character. This enchanting character is swift and sly; she is hidden from the world by the forest, living day by day, self sufficient and fierce. She finds peace in silence, and finds home in her heart. Hunting through archery is her strength and the forest whispers are her muse.
Norfolk, is to be seen as a work of art, with fashion as the medium. The designs represent various aspects of the small county; it is located in southwestern Ontario, on the northern shore of Lake Erie. The collection is inspired by the vegetation of the Carolinian forest and the popular local sport of hunting. A digital print of winter camouflage will be incorporated, as well as thickly woven fabrics with raw edges to mimic the rough wilderness. Necklines are high and structured to represent the peer through hunting blinds. The outfits have many layers and accents of leather to call upon the heritage of historical Canadian hunting wear. The collection will feature random areas of gold foiling to signify the soil and filth of the environment, in a glamorous way. The visual shape of natural architecture inspired the curved shapes and contrast of textures in the garments. The colours of the collection will be centered on neutrals that embrace femininity while contrasting with the rigid attitude of the garment.
