This student project involved creating an annual report and microsite for a company of our choice. I chose QMUNITY, a non-profit queer resource center. In 2013, they secured a $7 million grant from the City of Vancouver to construct a new, purpose-built facility in the West End, Vancouver’s gayborhood.
The annual report’s theme of “A New Home” builds off of this exciting time in QMUNITY’s history. The rainbow colour palette was inspired by the pride flag. In previous annual reports, the first-hand experiences of people in the queer community were documented through short stories. I felt these were great additions to the annual, and I wanted to illustrate the people behind the stories. The problem was that these people wanted to remain anonymous. My solution was to use the Q in QMUNITY’s logo as a symbol for a person’s head, in order to protect the identity of the authors.
