Refugees in Brussels, the capital of Europe. Waiting many months for the decision of Fedasil (the Belgian government). Can they stay in Belgium or not? About 3000 of them live on the streets of Brussels now. Some are sheltered in cheap hotels, others sleep outside.
These four images were taken when refugees had to leave their camp close to Fedasil and when they temporary moved to the campus of the University of Brussels.
Each morning they have to stand in line at the immigration offices, waiting for hours and hours, often in the cold. Here are newcomers and refugees who tried it before, hoping to get a better verdict this time.
Not enough place in the governmental refuges, so people squatted old buildings, housing in the cold, with only a mattress and an electric heater if they're lucky.
