A hypothetical, sustainable online fashion boutique with a unique style. Inspired by conceptual shapes with a focus on the concept of ‘blindness’, each individual garment reflects this approach. The garments are designed and made in the UK by freelance womenswear designer Annie Oakes.
The designer is passionate about her sustainable approach to design, finding innovative ways of recycling off-cuts of fabric to reduce waste is a key element to her practice therefore I wanted to represent this through nature photography.
The theme of the fashion collection focuses on the concept of ‘blindness’ through the touch sense of textures. De-constructing the senses & enhancing them through designed structural shapes & tactile appeals, to create an experience that appealed primarily through the senses, especially to those visually impaired. Inspired by the raised textures & circular formations of braille, considered features include negative spaces in pattern cutting, conveying codes through pattern, braille colour labels – reflected through usage & visual appreciation – as well as print designs drawn ‘blind’, masking the most prominent human sense. To represent this concept I wanted to celebrate the sense of touch by embossing logos onto textures used by the designer and by using braille typography to distinguish the descriptions of the garments.
