Work done in Spring 2015 in Architectural Design: Interior and Exterior class.
Folding Project: The program for the project is to begin inhabiting the left over urban spaces adjacent to Station North and the MICA campus. This project begins by colliding two identical forms, one positioned horizontally, the other vertically. These building blocks are strategically located at the intersection of I-83 and North Avenue to act as connectors.
Each floor has its own purpose. Materials are chosen to re-inforce those purposes.
Concrete is used for the first floor which is a private studio space for students. The second floor is public, a place where people meet and communicate. The one-way glass walls are only transparent from the inside. The horizontal glass wall framed with I-beams opens and lands on North Avenue. This creates another bridge/entrance from North Avenue and transforms the third floor into an open-air studio space.
