The story of Brunch follows Mark and Sara, a wealthy couple in the midst of a bitter divorce. While at a restaurant to divvy up their assets outside of court, the restaurant is assaulted by a pair of amorous desperados, Paul and Melissa, who seek to relieve the patrons of their valuables.
Mark and Sara's prize-winning dog, Sky, then becomes the subject of a three way custody battle, with Paul and Melissa holding a .45 caliber bargaining chip.
For my Junior Thesis in film school, I was tasked with creating a short film from script to screen. The purpose of this is to show that we are capable of creating great work, before the take on our enormous Senior Project. I am still trying to define my style of film making, so I decided to tackle a dark comedy on this project.
I can't draw to save my life, but I wanted to make sure that my vision for the film was effectively communicated. I got together with my Director of Photography and took some photos at our shooting location and added 3D models from Daz3D to help illustrate my vision.
For a project this ridiculous and important to my academic career, I decided to try and crowdfund the $2,500 budget required to pull this off successfully. The campaign is still going and has a few more days to contribute and can be found on Indiegogo.
During casting, I purposely went in without any idea how I wanted these characters to look or act, and allow the artists to bring their own interpretations to the table. I scheduled a plethora of actors and was completely overwhelmed with the task of deciding who was perfect for each of these roles. There really was no way to decide who was "better" than anyone else, because they were all different. Ultimately I decided on who I thought would mesh well together as a unit, and whose creativity I thought would bring out the best qualities in each character.
