The Crystalith, an original creature I conceived in my sketchbook one day.
Crystaliths (a combination of the words 'crystal' and 'monolith') are crystalline creatures resembling amethyst idols that inhabit mineral-rich caverns. On the surface they are completely inanimate, instead their life forces communicating with each other through the network of amethyst veins and geodes in the cave; that is until they sense somebody trying to mine it. A bright light shines from within all crystaliths (representative of their life force surfacing in the idols) and their teeth slide apart to reveal their mouths, from which a harmful beam of light is expelled against the intruder.
Some poor guy angers a cave of crystaliths.
This drawing was conceived from an interestingly shaped piece of red pepper on my brother's lunch plate one day on holiday. The shape resembled an elongated seahorse in my mind, and when I drew the shape in my sketchbook, one thing led to another resulting in this seadragon design.
