"NREM Sleep" acrylic, marker, charcoal, pencil 9"x30"x12"

This 3-dimensional piece represents the mind between being awake and asleep. I wanted to show a balance of realistic and abstract imagery. Memories race across while transitioning from awake and asleep. As memories flash across, slowly one loses control of their mind. The protruding hand takes control of the rest of the puce while some of the abstract imagery forms an image of an arm. The abstract designs seem to move itself on its own, and also protrudes from the top, bottom, and out of the board. The whole piece shows the movement of my mind during this stage of sleep. The control of the hand of the piece is how I feel when I lucid dream, where I can control how I feel and which memories can stay to be a part of my dream.
