A Forgotten Memory

A Piece of Memory
This is something I have been working on for the last two weeks. I wanted to create something that involves nature, like grass or a forest. I started it all by creating a simple flat plane and started experimenting with different particle settings to create different kind of grass. When I had the grass settings all fine and done I started to deform the flat plane I experimented with. After a long time I found the result I was looking for.

The lighting was believe it or not the easiest thing to create. All I had to do was to download the demo of Andrew Price's "Pro Lighting Skies" which allows you to create super realistic HDR lighting in seconds. The result was already looking really good. I deformed the ground in a particular way so you couldn't see the black horizon line.

The image lacked something, and that something was the subject. Something that is interesting and tells a story at the same time. I first decided to create a Tennis ball, I wanted to create something that had been long forgotten. The tennis ball was quite good but it didn't really tell a story. Thanks to the feedback I got I Finally decided to change the subject to something completely new. I was thinking that a child's toy might tell a powerful story. A toy airplane was the first thing that came into my head. Before I even knew it I was already looking at reference images.

Modeling the airplane was really simple and straight forward. Texturing it though was very hard because I didn't really know what style I was going for or how much dust I wanted to put on the plane. So I created the fence in the background instead which will give me an idea on how old the environment is. When the fence was done I finished the texturing on the airplane. All that was left was to render and tweak everything.

It was not question about it, I always choose to render my art using "Cycles" render engine because it is really accurate to the real world. It can also produce really realistic lighting. I Put on some "Depth of Field" with the subject as the focal point. Then I went into the compositor were I did all my "Post Processing".
Enjoy!
