Tash Gate, 2013. Laces Typeface. Auckland: Whitecliffe Collage of Arts and Design
This typeface was inspired by the youth of today, as they are commonly seen wearing Converse shoes. For that reason I wanted to use a contemporary approach, which is why I created digital illustrations. Even though Converse shoes are seen as being quite contemporary they have actually been around for a long time. I also wanted to reflect on that by creating the Converse shoes out of the original colour (apart from the laces). This typeface is primarily a display typeface as it is quite unique and not entirely readable. The typeface could be used for headings, posters etc. It can also work with just the forms of the laces, disregarding the shoes for a more versitile typeface.
