For the photo of the boats, I used split toning, combining hues of red and yellow to create a sepia-tone image.

I decided to make the first image into a normal black and white photo, using the grayscale filter, and making further highlight, exposure, and shadow adjustments. The only real "edit" I mad using a Photoshop tool was that I used the burn tool to darken the inside of the arch's right wall to balance the center of the image a bit. I think this also helped to bring out the highlights on the floor of the passway.
