When i first saw the Original image of this, i thought it was a really desaturated cool shot, and since the task was to add instagram-like filters to the image in photoshop, i opted for a filter that exagererated the darks for a more dramatically striking image, and so i chose to reconstruct the Brannan filter.
I started by adjusting the contrast on the image to about 85, when the gorges and shadows looked realistically dark, then i adjusted the levels by moving the middle slider a little to the right , causing the shadows to darken a bit more, next i added a yellow solid color fill to the image, reduced the opacity of the layerfill to about 40% to give it a slightly washed out/old picture look. to add the fadded effect, i adjusted the curves on the layer, and finally i added a sroke to give it that instagram border, i initially used the white stroke, but it was not showing up against the white background on behance, so i went back and fiddled with it.
