Investigating subtlety
This site-specific installation is made from thread and black latex, and it only becomes visible when being a few inches away. The thread was tied to the trees and tightened until they were quite taught, in order to create tension. The thread was dipped in black latex, and thus can survive quite a lot of weather changes. In fact it has been two months and quite a lot of storms, and it is still there.

The location chosen was among trees in the Gharusa tal-Mosta Gardens. This spot was chosen as it is a place where technically there are no man made things. I wanted the environment to be bare, yet at the same time not clinical. I wanted enough things to hide the thread, yet not so much that render it useless. The installation also became part of the environment, especially since the trees are what are holding it.This installation provides a sort of delayed perception to the viewer, since its presence is not immediately obvious. It takes a little time until the viewer realizes the extent of the installation and how far it reaches out. This installation provides reflection upon several topics, ranging from claustrophobia, social boundaries and their fragility, the idea of protection, entrapment and illusion.

As part of this work, I also included photography, which was also an effective way of documenting this work. The photographs were taken at different times during the day, and intended to capture the different light which fell onto the thread.
