Lee Hunt's profile

Never With a Wild Thing

This piece took me a year to complete, averaging.  It is 5 feet tall by 3 feet wide on what is vinyl printing paper, the ink doesn't actually sink in but instead sits on top.  When I was planning it, it was actually a tiger that was suppose to be curled around the bottom but the wolves become more fitting.  It also was suppose to have a frame drawn in but when I sketched in out I wanted the extra space.  The idea for layout came from novel cover illustrations, where 3rd dimension is suggested yet theres the flat 2 dimension that is almost forced.  This is the largest scale I've ever done and probably the best piece in my portfolio at the moment.  At this moment I am working on a second piece.  Same dimensions, pen ink again with vinyl paper.  It is not taking as long which may have to do with the subject matter tying it together better.  It is slightly linked to this piece, I'll let people decide how when it's finished.

It was also not planned out greatly, I tested out lots of inks and methods along the year.  The piece itself was something to pour my time into, it doesn't have a story behind it, but does have subject.  This is a portrait of someone who was very important to me.  This piece and most pieces I've done wouldn't actually exist right now if it wasn't for our meeting.  It has sat in my room for almost another year now with no plan to sell or even show to anyone outside a few close friends and family.  Most of them think it's quite silly to have such an extreme piece and do nothing with it.  The reason for my posting here is I've run into a point in my life where I need to self promote or fade.  Self survival in a way.  So I'm cleaning up my profile and posting shots of this piece.

So I hope you enjoy my work.  I certainly enjoyed working on it.  Feel free to find your own meaning in it, or simply critique and review if you wish.  I welcome all comments.
