Book Jackets for 'To Kill a Mockingbird'

Set in the mid-thirties in the south of the United States, 'To kill a mockingbird' is an iconic book with colorful, playful book cover designs as, Life viewed from the protagonist’s — six year old Scott — eyes.

This self-initiated project is a departure from the existing book cover designs with an emphasis on the overbearing prejudices that engulfed the victim of racial inequality. Hence, ‘black’ is the key color in all three options indicative of the discrimination faced by the ‘black’ victim in the book. The designs were intentionally created in a clean, stark graphical style in grim, dark, forbidding overtones.

Option 1 and 3 focus on a small, frail mockingbird set against a larger, bleak background.
Option 2 accentuates a looming shadow cast by the unbending prison bars illustrating the iron-hold that narrow, confined
mind-sets had over the southern American society in the 30’s.
